David Nicksay - Executive Producer of "Wicked" Films and Hit Musicals
For more than three decades, David Nicksay has been a prominent presence in Hollywood. A member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, he brings feature films to the big screen with Heliopolis Entertainment. At Paramount Pictures in the 1980s, David Nicksay was the executive of hit films such as “The Untouchables,” “Coming to America,” and “Ghost.” He has also guided production of well-received 3D films such as “Glee! The 3D Concert Movie” and “Justin Bieber: Never Say Never.” Other musicals in his resume include Lin Manuel Miranda's "In The Heights," several from the "Step Up" franchise, "Pitch Perfect 3" with Anna Kendrick and Hailee Steinfeld, "Be Cool" with John Travolta and Uma Thurman, and Michael Jackson's "Ghosts."
In recent years, Mr. Nicksay has had a prominent role in bringing the hit Broadway Musical “Wicked” to the silver screen as executive producer. The two-part story, directed by Jon M. Chu, launched with “Wicked” in November 2024, and continues a year later with “Wicked: For Good.” The latter film’s trailer generated 113 million views in its first 24 hours, a positive sign for a franchise that Universal has put its marketing and distribution weight behind, delivering blockbuster holiday fare. As Variety describes it, audiences “are excited to venture back down the yellow brick road.”
"Wicked" earned 10 Oscar nominations and won 2. "Wicked: For Good" appears to be on track to receive multiple nominations as well. Having earned accolades such as an Emmy nomination, Mr. Nicksay has been active with the American Film Institute Education and Training Advisory Board. An Otis College of Art and Design lecturer, he provides insights into the digital media realm.
